History Of Gramaus
In the socio-economic development as well as a holistic development of a low and middle income country, like Bangladesh; along with other stakeholders, NGOs play vital role as one of the key contributing factors in the society. Grameen Manobic Unnayan Sangstha (GRAMAUS) is such an NGO that has been established in 1984 by the initiative of a group of young people, social workers, and NGO personnel of Charpara village, Phulpur Upazial under Mymenshing district. Initially, it starts working as a social welfare organization in the name of “Charpara Tarun Sangha” within the Upazila. Gradually, it expands it’s working volume and became registered by the NGO Affairs Bureau as a non-profit organization in he name of Grameen Manobic Unnayan Sangstha (Gramus) in 1985. Gramaus initiated a kind of social work that not only helps people ternary but also make them (the rural poor) capable of undertake the responsibility of their development. Over 36 years of its journey, the organization has been implementing different national and international donor and government supported projects within grater Mymensingh districts. At present Gramus expanded its activities in 6 Districts (Mymensingh, Sherpur, Netrokona, Tangail, Cumilla & Gazipur), 16 Upazilas, 162 Unions, 1947 Villages and 9 Municipalities.
The organization is working with different development programs like- Income generation activities (IGA), Agriculture, Health, Sanitation, Education, Environment, and Human Rights. The GRAMAUS became strengthen by its wide working areas, diversified development activities, trained and skilled manpower, available office facilities with modern equipment, complete training facilities (including training venue and logistics), and well-guided management from NGO HQ to field level. The organization has endeavored to be an effective instrument for the development of the poor since its establishment. It has been consistently making efforts to evolve an alternative development strategy. Over the years, the organization has succeeded in developing strategies, approaches, and programs that are relevant to the key referred of its alternative development paradigm, referred to as the participatory sustainable development paradigm. It has pioneered the concepts and method of organization building participatory approach and planning process, access to and common property resources, like Social forestry, Education program and many innovative employment and Income Generating Activities through credit management. Over the years the organization seeks to promote the health and socio-economic condition of women, girls, and adolescent by undertaking different development programs.
The organization dreams and strives for a society that will be free from exploitation and oppression, and where every individual will be able to live in peace and get an equitable share of the available resources. It has experienced and skilled staff who are quite capable of carrying out all kinds of development activities.
The achievements are remarkable and praiseworthy in the operational areas and has built up a good relationship with local administrations and government departments. The activities of the organization are highly appreciated and accepted by the local administration and community people.

To administer intensive and for reaching participatory and sustainable social and structural change process through empowerment of the poor strata of the communities.
Objectives:
- Work with the poor and extreme poor/hard core poor irrespective of age, sex, religion and caste with people of any form of exclusion by addressing cause of their marginalization, inhumanity and exploitation for ensuring dignified life.
- GRAMAUS is committed to bring about positive change in the quality of lives of the deprived people by making available education, comprehensive health services, establish the rights of women and Tribal people in the society following sustainable and integrated approach.
- Undertake and implement need based and appropriate development programs that enhance scope of people’s participation to bring them in the main stream of development and significant positive changes in their lives through meet-up their basic needs.
- GRAMAUS firmly believes that emphasizing an inclusive gender approach, community participation and working in integration and collaboration with government and other relevant organization enhances the qualities of women’s lives.

Present working area of the organization:
The Organization started with only one village of PhulpurUpazila of Mymensingh district its inception in 1984. In this way, after compiling 38 years the organization has been able to expand its activities in 16 Upazila, 162 Unions , 2021 Villages and 11 Pouroshovas under in 6 Districts :
